John McCain, Feed Me Some Ribs
John Mccain was taking a little heat Friday after he told a Pittsburgh TV station that when he was interrogated in Vietnam he gave his captors the names of the defensive linemen of the Pittsburgh Steelers when pressed for information about his fighting squadron. Well, alot of people already know that it was actually the defensive line of the GREEN BAY PACKERS that McCain gave his captors, or at least that's what he said in his book, "The Faith of My Fathers," which puts McCain in a position of criticism. Was he pandering to the people of Pittsburgh? And if he were to give an interview to the local Indianapolis TV station near where I live, would he say he cited the names of the 60's-era COLTS linemen to his captors? Though I personally wouldn't be too impressed by that because the Colts were in Baltimore back then. Hahahahahaa.I have to say that this incident doesn't bother me at all with McCain. I even think it is pretty funny, such blatant distorting of the truth and pandering, it almost looks endearing. Being a big football fan I like it when politicians even make football a part of their platform. McCain has been having so many mis-steps lately, and he responds to them in such a charming way, it makes you want to give him a pass. You hear the outrageous story about how he physically roughed up a Sandista rebel, then see him squirm when asked a question about Viagra. You remember his horrible tribulations in Vietnam and you just can't help but like the guy, he's just this funny, crusty old dude who doesn't give up, who laughs off adversity and makes light of questions about bombing whole countries. McCain is indeed likable but I find myself saying to myself, "Awwwww, ain't he cute? That dude's a real trip!" whenever he's on the news; and I'm not certain that's the sort of reaction I should have about a guy running for President. He's the kind of guy you'd want to have at your barbeque or have a beer with, the colorful grandpa with all the great stories, but I just don't know about him being President. I do respect the guy and like him to an extent, more than I do most Republicans. Even though he and and his wife are filthy rich, his "lovable tough-guy" image resonates better with blue-collar voters more than Barack's image does, which is why I think McCain does have a CHANCE at winning the election because Americans have shown thay will vote for a guy most qualified to feed them baby-back ribs at a cook-out than who would actually make a better President.
