John McCain Doesn't Respect Football?

john mccain footballJohn McCain shocked both the football and political worlds the other day when he announced that he would be giving his Republican nomination acceptance speech
on Thursday, September 4th which is the same night as the NFL regular Season kick-off! That doesn't seem very wise nor patriotic to me. I respect John McCain's war service, there is no question of that. He is obviously a tough older guy who could kick alot of young guys' butts around the room. He has also done alot for America with his many years of service in the U.S. Senate but with all that being said, it seems that with this scheduling of his speech he has committed a severely unpatriotic act. Trying to lure viewers away from the opening NFL game, football fans who have been waiting the whole off-season to finally see a real, live match-up between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins? After suffering through dozens of meaningless exhibition games throughout the month of August I am always FOAMING AT THE MOUTH at the prospect of finally seeing a meaningful match-up during the THURSDAY NFL KICK-OFF and John McCain is trying to lure me away from it?

Watching football is a patriotic act. Football has long surpassed baseball as the national past-time and with the Republicans always seeming to tell others what and who is patriotic or not, it really disappoints me that they would show this kind of disrespect to the honorable game of football and to the millions of fans who now must be torn between watching John McCain give a speech or enjoying the football festivities. I'm sorry, but if John McCain thinks people will feel more patriotic watching him rather than football he is wrong, at least in my case. I am not a Republican, nor will I vote for McCain, but I am deeply interested in this year's presidential election and would have watched McCain's speech if not for this scheduling conflict. I urge you, Senator McCain, if you want millions more viewers to watch your speech then please do the patriotic thing and reschedule it to Wednesday, or something. I and many more Americans who enjoy both football and presidential politics would greatly appreciate it. Please do not disrespect us nor the game we all so deeply love.
